Before setting up The Sussex Bookkeeper in Horsham I spent fifteen years in the corporate world as a senior manager of a FTSE 100 security company, managing a yearly budget of 2.2 million and a staff of one hundred.
Setting up The Sussex Bookkeeper was a way for me to pass on skills and experience that I have gained in the tough corporate environment. I have spent many years striving to save on cost whilst adding value to my customers.

Our Bookkeeping Services
The Sussex Bookkeeper provides a range of bookkeeping services, taking the hassle out of managing your accounts so that you can focus on adding value to your business. Our approach is very flexible. We can come to your premises to work with your software or take away your data and use our own software, whatever solution best fits your business.
Our main bookkeeping services are outlined below. If you are not sure what services you require or desire a service that is not listed then please contact us. We are here to help.
Preparation Of Books
We use the most up-to-date tools and software to prepare your books so that everything is laid out correctly ready for submitting to either your accountant or directly to HMRC (HM Revenue and Customs).
Cash Flow Bank Reconciliation
With cash flow being the key to a successful business we can regularly monitor your bank accounts to check that everything is paid in and out as planned, plus make you aware of any unexpected transactions or anticipated cash shortages.
VAT Returns
We can take care of all your VAT requirements including registration, calculation and the submitting of your quarterly returns.
Management Account Reports
Sometimes businesses need to know where they stand financially. We can produce profit and loss accounts, balance sheets and simple snap shot reports to show how financially healthy your business is - Saving you vast amounts of time.
Supplier Relationships
With accurate and timely accounts kept, we can make sure you are aware of any discounts you can benefit from by highlighting to you the best times for you to pay your suppliers.
Invoicing And Credit Control
We can take care of all your invoicing requirements - Laying them out correctly, accounting for VAT, adding advanced information such as prompt payment reductions and even assisting with credit control (professionally chasing unpaid invoices).
VAT (Value Added Tax)
Whether you are just about to be registered for VAT or have been calculating for some time, The Sussex Bookkeeper in Horsham can ensure you get it right.
We can help you with all areas of VAT:
- When should you register VAT?
- How to register for VAT?
- Preparation of your quarterly VAT returns.
- Can you deregister VAT?
Accounting for VAT correctly is very important. If your books are incorrect then your VAT calculations are also likely to be incorrect. This of course produces a knock on effect ending up with incorrect payments being made to HMRC (HM Revenue and Customs).
Using The Sussex Bookkeeper in Horsham to keep your books up-to-date gives you a clear understanding of your liability to the HMRC. We will complete your VAT return ensuring the calculations are correct with everything processed in a timely manner.
Self Assessment Tax Return
If you are self employed or a sole trader you are legally required to complete and submit a Self Assessment Tax Return to HMRC (HM Revenue and Customs).
The Sussex Bookkeeper in Horsham can produce your end of year accounts and also complete your Self Assessment Tax Return (accounts are needed for an accurate Self Assessment Tax Return to be made). We can also work out and advise you of your tax liabilities including the date any payments are due, plus file your Self Assessment Tax Return online with HMRC.
